In our latest edition of The VICTVS Podcast, our hosts Xanthe Mitten and Kat Barnett welcome guest Richard de Blacquière-Clarkson to the studio to discuss AI in higher education.
Richard de Blacquière-Clarkson is the AI Hub Lead at the University of Leeds and Strategic Lead for Research Ethics at the Leeds Institute for Teaching Excellence (LITE). Through his work, he fosters discussion between academics around the use of AI, particularly focusing on how to prepare students for an AI-powered workplace whilst simultaneously preserving academic integrity.
While we have previously considered a more positive slant on AI with AI advisor and TheWhiteBox author Nacho de Gregorio Noblejas (see episode 11), this episode specifically focuses on the realities of AI in higher education and the difficulties academics have in ensuring students only use the technology in a way that benefits their learning. Throughout the discussion, we cover these practicalities, as well as the issue of deskilling and the possibilities of sovereign AI.
