The VICTVS Podcast: Episode 13 – AI and Reasonable Adjustments. Can LLMs Make Assessments Fairer?

What if generative AI could be used as a reasonable adjustment for neurodivergent students?

That’s the question we explored in the latest episode of The VICTVS Podcast. Hosted by Carly Culver, the discussion featured Andy Gregory, COO of VICTVS, and socio-legal researcher Daniel Morgan, who recently published the paper ‘Reasonable Adjustments for Neurodivergent Students in Higher Education: Generative AI, Accessibility, and Mediated Authorship.‘

In the paper, Daniel argues that generative AI tools could significantly improve accessibility for neurodivergent students, functioning in ways comparable to traditional support mechanisms such as scribes. He suggests that AI can act as a form of scaffolding, helping students communicate their ideas while preserving academic authorship.

Drawing on his background in assessment and education, Andy offered an important counterpoint, exploring how institutions can balance accessibility and the use of generative AI while maintaining academic integrity. Together, they examined the opportunities and challenges associated with adopting AI in higher education, including accessibility, assessment integrity, bias, implementation hurdles, and the risk of overreliance on these tools.
